In 1862, Henri-Maurice Perrault (an architect still remembered today for having designed the old Courthouse, City Hall, Sacré Coeur chapel and the church on Bonsecours street) was commissioned by Charles Wilson (the only Montreal mayor to have been elected by acclamation on three occasions) to design a building which was to be located on a site owned by him, in the heart of Old Montreal. |
